STATEMENT
Published on 1st May 2023 in Members NewsDear Members,
The scheduled event widely spread via various social media sites has been cancelled. Bunbury Golf Club will look to alternate relocation solutions for sustainability and the conservation of our Kangaroo residents with local conservation groups.
Bunbury Golf Club is located on 72 hectares and is home to upwards of 500 kangaroos at certain times of the year. The club nurtures all wildlife and more importantly understands our role of Kangaroo biodiversity and conservation for sustainability.
The Club promotes our Kangaroo residents and other wildlife as part of the experience while playing golf or enjoying the facilities.
Bunbury Golf Club had never planned on a cull of “All Kangaroo’s and Joeys” as quoted via several social media statements or worse.
Whilst the club is located on private property, our course is also adjacent to a nature reserve and vegetation corridor on the Collie River, and also adjacent to the Leschenault Inlet with our golf course being a great haven for local wildlife which we encourage and nuture.
Due to safety and a public health risk from recent aggressive behaviour from a few large bucks whom also cause major damage, a few were approved to be removed.
The Club will seek support and assistance from our local conservation groups for improved management and conservation.
