PRESIDENTS REPORT OCTOBER 2017

Published on 16th October 2017 in Members News

To all Members,

What an exciting time to be involved with the Bunbury Golf Club.

Congratulations to all involved with the success of our Members Draw last Friday night. In particular I would like to thank Mandi for her organisation, Des, Libby, and our wonderful bar staff Vanessa, Linda, Laura and Jenny. Over 150 people in the club enjoying a great night. Well done to our major prize winners Lorraine Martin, Craig Wood and Barry Eaton.

The Members Jackpot Draw continues Friday nights with a steady increase in numbers as the Jackpot rises. Its sure to go off soon so come on down to the Club on a Friday for a quick nine holes followed by a couple of drinks at happy hour prices and the draw at 6:30.

Congratulations to Danny Ennor on his success in the 2017 Men’s Club Championships. A truly deserved winner. Danny works hard on his game and strives to maintain and improve the high standards he sets himself. It was also great to see Connor Butlion in the final. Even though he was unsuccessful this year he will learn from that experience and I’m sure next year will be again in contention. The qualifying rounds for the Women’s Club Champion have begun and I wish all those competing the best of luck.

Congratulations also to Bailey Hampson for winning this year’s Captains Cup. Bailey is one of many of our juniors who excelled in the recently completed Goldfields Junior Desert Open by being the Overall Nett Winner and Winner for U/13s Gross. Other outstanding performances were from Sonny James, Nick Liebenberg, Taylah Hall and Chloe Gronn. Thanks also to Jane DePaoli and Robyn Waugh for their support.

Make sure you enter this year’s Castieau Classic. 36 holes of mixed 4BBB Stableford over two days on November 18th&19th. Barney Jones (Gina’s Homecare) is a fantastic guy as well as a very generous sponsor and it’s always a great weekend.

This year’s AGM is on Monday 27th November. All nominations for Board Positions need to be on the noticeboard by 5pm Friday 10th November. Nomination forms will be available from Des shortly. Please nominate for a position if you have the time to commit to improving our great club. If you don’t wish to be involved at a Director level but have the passion to be involved in some way then I urge you to consider being on one of the committees, Match, Grounds, House/Social, Membership or Finance. We are currently advertising for a Full Time Function and Bar Manager. Our Director of House/Social will be working closely with that person as well as the Club Captain and Ladies President and Captain to improve on member services on all competition days. We will also be looking at ways to celebrate the Clubs 70th Birthday at Clifton Park.

The Club Upgrade is progressing well. By the end of next week (19th October) Stage 1 should be completed. The next steps will be to complete the disabled toilet and then to barricade across from the corner of the bar to the dance floor. The builders can then remove some walls on the old match office and GMs office as well as setting the height of the ceiling that will flow through the entire function area. Please note that during this time entry to the club will be via the dance floor doors. The card reader will be temporarily relocated. Please be patient and understanding I realize there will be inconvenience but it will be worth it in the long run. I must also thank Ned Golem and Peter Martinson for the work that they have done in the Ladies Change rooms and are about to do in the Men’s Change rooms. You guys have done a fantastic job.

The Course has come back well from the coring. I must thank Celio Novel and Alan Blake for their assistance on the Sunday as well as the entire Sod Skwod for their efforts. The whole job was finished in record time. Well done boys. It’s also great to see the 10th tee garden looking great. Robyn Waugh and her girls are doing a wonderful job with the gardens around the club. It’s always good to see a splash of colour as you wander down the hill having shanked your drive.

I have mentioned the names of a few volunteers in the above paragraphs. I do realise there are many more. It never ceases to amaze me how lucky we are as a Club to have so many members that are generous with their time, skills and advice.

As a Board we welcome all feedback. Please note that the Suggestion Box is now located on the Members Menu following a very useful suggestion.

Kind regards,

Warren Mezger

President
