President’s Report – May
Published on 27th April 2024 in Members NewsThe South West Open will be on this coming weekend Sat 4th and Sun 5th May. A lot of work has been going on behind the scenes and I understand we have received a strong field of some 65 professionals plus WA’s leading amateur players here to compete, which is very encouraging. It would be great to see lots of members support the event and come to the course and clubhouse to watch, socialise and get involved in any way possible.
The Club was most saddened to hear about the recent passing of Terry Veale. Terry was a long serving member of the Club since 1974 and provided generous sponsorship to a wide variety of major club events over many years. Whilst he hasn’t been seen at the Club in recent times he remained in contact with key members and showed an active interest in all aspects of his beloved Club. I also appreciate the attendance of a large contingent of members at Terry ’s funeral in a show of recognition and appreciation of his significant contribution to the Bunbury Golf Club. RIP Terry Veale.
I thought the ANZAC Diggers Day was a tremendous success. It was well supported and the short but respectful ceremony prior to the shotgun start was appreciated by all in attendance. Thank you for all those who assisted on the day.
The Board met recently and considered matters relating to general operations, capital expenditure, finances and future plans for course maintenance, local rules and possible new projects. Approval was also given to proceed with the; installation of additional solar panels at a cost of $21,000 to be funded from the Members Special Projects Levy (estimated electricity savings of $8000pa), removal of the peppermint trees adjacent to the 18th green due to their poor condition; and adoption of updated By-Law to provide clearer guidelines for motorised carts on the course.
Finally, I attended a luncheon held at the Clubhouse in honour of our 50 year members. This was an opportunity to thank a special contingent of members for their enormous contribution to the history and development of our Club. The luncheon is held annually.
Good luck for those participating in the finals of the Mens Club Championships this coming weekend.
