PRESIDENTS REPORT – FEBRUARY 2018

Published on 12th February 2018 in Members News

To all Members,

The New Year has started off well at our Club. It is great to see the number of people at Twilight on a Friday evening. We are really building a great atmosphere with the music, barbeques, raffles and members draw contributing to the vibe. Thanks to Tami and her House/Social team for their involvement. Tami would like some more helpers, especially males. You don’t have to attend meetings but be available to move tables and furniture when the need arises. If you can help ring Tami (0427 361 171)

We would also like a few more members on our Match Committee. If you would like to lend a hand can you let Captain Brad know on ((0419 316 866). There also seems to be a shortage of people across all playing groups that have the computer knowledge to close comps and do reports. Brad Grinter has volunteered to upskill any members who are keen. Can you give your name to Brad and he will organise a time when the group will meet.

Shani did a presentation to the Board on the South West Junior Golf Pathway program. The Board supports where she is trying to go with this but she does need some help. I f you can spare some time to help our juniors can you please get in touch with Shani.

The Club is proud to announce some of its new appointments to our management team. Mark Alderdice is our new Golf Operations Manager. Mark has been in the industry for a long time with experience at Lakelands, Gosnells and Araluen. Mark is an expert club fitter and looks forward to assisting members with any golfing issues. We would like all Club Members to support our Pro Shop. If you get a price on something please check with Mark whether we can match it.  We would like the opportunity.

I would also like to welcome Linda Richardson to our management team. Linda is our new Function & Beverage Manager. Linda has been involved in the hospitality industry for over 30 years and has gathered experience at the Bunbury Trotting Club, Rose Hotel, Kings Hotel as well as Lecturing in  Hospitality at the Commercial Club. She is well organised and sets high standards. Our upgrade will change the way we market our Club and one of Linda’s roles will be to provide guidance to different groups requiring the use of our facilities and to help develop our Clubhouse into a profitable income stream.

Within the fortnight our Club will also be appointing an assistant to Mark in the ProShop. Essentially this role will be Lyn’s replacement. Lyn finishes on Wednesday 21st February and she has been with us for more than thirteen years. Lyn does not want a formal farewell though she is coming to the club for a social Twilight drink on Friday 23rd from 5pm, make sure you drop in and give her your best. We wish Lyn a relaxing retirement.

The Australia Day Classic was a huge success. Our new sponsor, Bethanie, were very impressed with the week of golf and the exposure they received.  Congratulations to Laurie Bennett and Trish Power on your success. The course was in terrific condition and thanks to our grounds staff for the standard of the course and thanks also to Libby, Vanessa, Linda, and Laura for how well the Clubhouse was set up.

The Leschenault Classic is our next open event happening on the 3rd & 4th March. Sponsored by Terry Veale this is an event not to be missed. I encourage all members to participate as Terry and his family have supported our Club for many years. After the Leschenault Classic on the Monday Public Holiday (5th March) we will stage a Mixed/Matched 4BBB Stableford Event and we encourage members and our visitors to stay over and compete.

As members may have noticed Dave is continually working on eradicating parramatta grass from our course. He has a small group of volunteers but would appreciate it if he could get a couple more reliable helpers. If you have the time could you give Dave (0418 940 227) a ring.

The work on the Constitution has been completed. It has been sent off to Clubs WA to get their approval and once we get it back from them will circulate to all members for their input. We then need a Special General Meeting vote of approval to empower the new Constitution.

The Club Upgrade has been greeted with acclamation from the vast majority of members who speak to me. At the moment quotes are being sourced for the outside balcony/decking area. When we know how much it’s going to cost then Mark Thomas (Director of Finance) will be able to work out how much we need to borrow to complete the whole project without delay. Many people have asked me why don’t we just continue, but we have a constitution that dictates the process. That process is, firstly the Board has to recommend a resolution “that the Club borrows $x to complete the project”. Secondly that resolution goes to a Special General Meeting (most probably the same one where we deal with the constitution) where members vote on accepting or not accepting the Boards resolution.

Finally I would like to pass on both Chris’s and my personal condolences to the families and friends of Kath Philip and Delma Fraser. When Chris and I first joined the Club Kath and Duncan were Sunday stalwarts. Kath’s calm demeanour, the way she carried herself both on and off the golf course and her sense of good fun will be always remembered.

Delma, a relatively new member, was quick to endear herself with the people she played and socialised with. She had a great sense of humour and there was always that glint of fun and good times in her eyes.

Enjoy the good times, enjoy the people you play this game with and Happy Golfing.

Kind regards,

Warren Mezger

President
