President’s Report August 2019
Published on 5th September 2019 in Members NewsThe golf club has been very busy recently on and off the course. Off the course the golf club hosted the Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce and Industry after hours function where some 100 people attended. Some of our staff and Board worked the room and we have gained some function bookings for the club as well as showcasing our facilities to a wider audience. The Board have recently approved the 3 month trial of a marketing plan offered by company Bureau 42 which will hopefully give our marketing efforts more structure.
On the course the Captains Cup and Men’s Club Championships have been decided with good fields for these events and we were generally blessed with good weather.
The Ladies had their Open Day and Bunbury Bowl and Bunbury Classic event last month and the fields were good for these as well.
The Juniors were involved in the Drummond Golf open event and a successful day was held at Bunbury with good numbers and positive feedback on our course and facilities.
Craig Reynolds the new Pro in the golf shop is settling in to his new role and some changes have already been made. We have also signed on with “On Course Golf” which will give us better buying power and also enable us to offer our members a better range of products at a better price.
Recent social events have been successful with the quiz night being a great night. Thanks must go to Quiz Master Ron Tait and MC Chris Morris who kept the crowd entertained all night. Friday nights continue to be well patronised by members and guests and the meals are proving to be very popular. The Sportsman’s Night was a great success and the Murder Mystery dinner night so make sure you book your tables for this.
Grounds staff are about to get very busy with the planned replacement of No. 1 green and then No. 16 green on the course with temporary greens once again being used during this time. Some of our members enjoy the shorter course and the challenges that temporary greens bring.
Finance have also been working on next years budget among other projects and this is close to being finalised. The Board approved an increase in subscriptions of 2% for the 2019/2020 membership year.
Membership numbers continue to improve and are above prior year levels which is promising and a credit to our staff and membership committee. Our current target 100 is going well and I am hopeful that our new members will enjoy the experience.
Happy Golfing
President – Mark Thomas
