President’s Report 8th June 2019

Published on 9th June 2019 in Members News

Dear Members

Last weekend saw the running of the South West Open and it was a highly successful event.  The weather was perfect, the course was in great condition and the golf was of a very high quality.  I had the pleasure of playing all weekend with the eventual winner Josh Younger and he played great golf especially on the Sunday when he scored 6 consecutive birdies in a row from hole no 6 onwards.  Clearly the event would not have been as successful without the huge support of our staff and members who all worked tirelessly as a team to present a very professional event.  Thank you all very much.

We are now moving into our winter and the playing of a series of golf letter events.  The first one for the men is in July with the 36 hole Captains Cup being played.  Normally a popular event and this year it will also be the main qualifying event for the men’s club championship and plate events.  It is proposed to also have another 18 hole qualifier during July as well and this will be confirmed by the Match committee shortly.

The ladies are very active and currently competing in the silver spoon and international bowl events as well as SWDLGA events and numerous open days are also on offer. On top of this ladies pennant games are happening across the South West.  Numbers in all these events and most other ladies events has been strong.

It is also good to see that the Friday night $15 meals continue to be popular with a lot of interest in the members draw as well.  Well done to Cathy Gibson who is the most recent member jackpot winner of $900.  The club has been utilising our own staff in the kitchen recently and it is our vision to expand our food offerings to our members and their guests over time. In conjunction with this Tay has been busy with her regular bar specials and these are also very popular with the members.  Also, the tap beer on offer has been evolving as well partly due to availability from our suppliers and also Tay has been keen for our members to also experience some high quality craft beers as well.

There have also been changes in the shop with PGA Golf Professional Craig Reynolds moving from the Sanctuary to join our team at Bunbury.  Craig will be a great addition to our staff and he has lots to offer our members so please introduce yourself to Craig when in the shop.

Junior golfers have been very active as well with the recent completion of the first semester of the South West Junior League which was very popular at Bunbury and throughout the southwest.  Impact Junior Golf through Shani has also been successful in gaining some extra funding for a South West Junior Golf Development program which has currently identified 8 juniors who will go through this program over the next few months.  Impact Junior Golf will soon have new a new website, facebook and Instagram sites up and running which will be more in line with the present vision and direction of our recently completed strategic plan for Junior Golf.

Happy golfing everyone.
