President’s Patter – August
Published on 1st August 2023 in Members NewsWell, it has certainly been a wet and cold July. Hats off to Superintendent Dave and his crew on keeping the Course in such great condition in very trying times.
There have been significant improvements to safety around the course over past weeks with ongoing pruning and removal of dangerous trees and completion of works in the sandpit to improve safety and reduce risk exposure. The construction of the new fertiliser storage shed is now complete with planning works progressing on the new and improved hazardous chemicals storage facility. The completion of this project will finalise the ongoing improvements to our grounds facilities. On behalf of us all I would like to extend our thanks to Warren Mezger who heads up the Special Projects Committee along with Gary Pritchard and Jim Weston with ongoing contributions from Ron Bow and Bruce Clapp and of course our fantastic ‘Sod Skwod’ ably coordinated by our Director of Grounds Alan Grist and Course Super Dave Brennan.
Congratulations to all our men’s and women’s pennant teams who have performed so well over past weeks not least with our Div 1 Men’s team finishing strongly to avoid relegation.
I trust that all who played in the recent President’s Cup had an enjoyable day. Regrettably I was unable to be there due to an external commitment but I do want to thank Brad Whelan for undertaking presentations on my behalf. Congratulations to the winners and commiserations to those who braved the elements but came up short. The weather could have been a little better but it was certainly an improvement on the previous days. I am also disappointed that I wasn’t there for the curry! I am sure the buffet was up to our Chef Karli’s usual high standards and was enjoyed by all.
As President it has been a source of great satisfaction to me to see so much positive work going on around the Club over past months and the with the finalisation of the new 5 Year Strategic Plan, I believe our Club is in a strong position to grow and develop under the direction of future Boards. Positive feedback from visiting groups remains strong about the course, our facilities and our friendly staff. Well done everyone and keep up the great work!
Happy golfing till next time.
