President Report- May 2017
Published on 9th May 2017 in Members NewsTo all Members,
Following on from our Special General Meeting we had our first meeting with the Builder Thursday 27th April. More detailed plans need to be developed and then submitted to gain the necessary permits with the relevant authorities and contracts have to be signed. Members will be informed via our website as to what they can expect to see in the coming weeks. If members have any questions they need answered then Des S is the man to see. Des and Gavin (the Builder) will be keeping a close line of communication. If Members have old photographic memorabilia of our Clubhouse, pictures of older members and maybe even from Sealinks we would like to borrow it and maybe copy it to use as part of our “history walk” through the interior of the “new “clubhouse.
The South West Open is rapidly approaching and once again if you are not playing in the event we are in desperate need of volunteers over the five days. Daniel Tylor is coordinating all signage, advertising, marquee construction and basically everything that needs to be done out on the course. Tami Mepham has lists of volunteer requirements both food preparation in the kitchen and outside serving. Brad Grinter also requires assistance with Match responsibilities including, starting, cards, spotting and scoring. Damian Peacock also needs a hand at certain times as far as furniture rearrangements, raffles, and other odd jobs. Please check the notice board in the club and volunteer for something if you can spare the time. Apart from watching golf that weekend there will be plenty of other entertainment. Book a table for Matthew Pavlich at the Sportsman’s Night, come along to the Quiz Night and get there early for Bruce Clapp and the Midways on Sunday Night. Gavin Billington has kindly donated their Courtesy Bus for those patrons requiring a lift back to into town after the event.
We had a great field for the Foursomes Championships held recently. Thanks very much to the Parks Tavern for your generous sponsorship. Men’s Foursomes Champions were Tim Gilotti and Robin Mudd with a fine score of 147 while our Women’s Foursomes Champions for 2017 are Jo Jones and Beth Deeley with a 36 hole score of 176. While on the championship I must thank Les Horrobin for the work he did in manually entering all cards at the end of the day. It is worth noting the responsibility for setting up all competitions at the Bunbury Golf Club rests with Lyn in the Pro Shop. The competition was set up correctly. The issues that caused the problems rested with a MiClub software issue unable to be rectified on the day. Nobody at our club could be held responsible. There have experienced a few recent problems with MiClub and the 36 hole multi round competitions.
Anzac Day, a special day, was commemorated with a small service followed by 18 holes of stableford. Even though our sponsor, Scott Francis, couldn’t be there, he would have appreciated the full field enjoying a wonderful afternoon of golf. Congratulations to Greg Brown and Sonya Thompson on being our winners on the day.
Thank you also to C.U.B. for sponsoring the Easter Cup. Again the weather has been fantastic throughout the month and congratulations to our two winners Michael King and Jo Jones.
Make sure your get your team organised for the 36 hole Mixed Foursomes Championship to be held on Sunday 28th May. It promises to be a fun day and don’t forget we provide free counselling for those in need after the game. This year for your $30 you get 36 holes of golf, lunch provided and a Curry meal for Dinner. Thanks very much to our new sponsor for the event Kylie Crawford and Venrock Finance.
The Bunbury Golf Club pennant teams have been enjoying some successes. The Junior Pennant Team completed their pennant season over the summer season whilst our two ladies Pennant teams have just completed their seasons. The WABLGA Pennant team won 2 out of its 6 rounds and represented our Club with great distinction. The SWDLGA Pennants are still in progress and our 5 teams have also enjoyed considerable success. The two men’s pennant teams have started training and their season kicks off the weekend after the South West Open. Good luck gentlemen and we hope we build on the successes we enjoyed last year.
As a Board we welcome all feedback. Please feel free to save the following link and use the SUGGESTION BOX e-mail address which is suggestionbox@bunburygolfclub.com.au to pass on your thoughts. Each suggestion will be responded too.
