PRESIDENT REPORT APRIL 2017
Published on 4th April 2017 in Members NewsTo all Members,
Well the 2017 Golfing season is officially under way following Opening Day and what an exciting year it is going to be. The course is looking great, the new outdoor furniture really fits in well and there is a buzz of anticipation in the air. Thank you to Dave Lamont for getting the season started and also thanks Dave for your contributions over a very long period of time. Thanks to the Past Presidents for your sponsorship and the day and evening was enjoyed by all. Congratulations to Zelda and Rangi winning on a countback from Anna and Kim Novel.
Earlier last month the Leschenault Classic was played. Always a popular event and holding great tradition in our club this year’s event was won by Scott Davey and Donna Wroth. A huge thank you to Terry Veale for his ongoing support of our club. Unfortunately Terry is struggling a bit these days and even though Terry didn’t compete this year we know a part of his heart remains at the Bunbury Golf Club.
The Australia Day Classic turned out to be a great week of golf and thanks to Gavin and Mike and Bunbury Holden for stepping in to sponsor this fine event. Congratulations to Tricia Trevaskis and Prathap Kallaraj for playing outstanding golf over the weekend. I would also like to pay special mention to Damian Peacock and Vanessa for the way they worked together to ensure the success of the weekend. Also special mention to Barney for cooking up a storm with those lamb chops on the Thursday event. Truly a great week of golf.
The Centenary Cup also turned out to be a great day. Thanks to Nathan Brennan and ReadyForce Personnel for sponsoring this great event of 36 holes of stroke. This year’s winner was Prathap Kallaraj with truly some outstanding golf especially closing with a Nett 61. Amazing. There is no doubt the Good Doctor has the highest winning conversion rate when it comes to Gold Letter events. Both he and Scotty Davey have shared the last 5. See if you can get in a group with them for the Easter Cup, some of it may rub off.
By now you will have received notice from the Club announcing a Special General Meeting on 24th April to commence the Club Upgrade. Other information can be obtained from our Website which includes Plans and Elevations, Frequently asked Q &A section, and a Financial Statement outlining costs and payment strategies. We will be also holding an information session on Tuesday 18th April at 6pm to answer any question you have or give further clarification about design, construction etc. Please familiarise yourself with all of this information and if you have further questions please don’t hesitate to ask either Des, Mark Thomas, Trevor Smith, Jim Weston or myself. Having been a member for quite a while we have always heard we are going too, well now the Finance Committee, Director of Finance and Board are unanimous in their opinion that we are able to commence the Club Upgrade. Some members have enquired about the possibility of submitting a Proxy vote on the issue. This is not possible as our Constitution does not make provision for that possibility.
Also on the horizon is this year’s South West Open Championship to be held on June 3rd 4th and 5th. Apart from the golf there will be some outstanding activities that our members can enjoy. The Sportsmen’s Night (Thursday 1st June) will feature Matthew Pavlich so be quick to reserve your table. On the Friday 2nd June will be the Pro-am, Saturday Night we will be holding a Quiz Night and on the Sunday Night Bruce Clapp and his Midways return to entertain us. The last time we heard them was the $100 Raffle Night and they were superb so organise yourselves and let’s make it another truly memorable night. We will be requiring, once again, a large amount of volunteers to help us over that weekend and I will be speaking at presentations to each golfing group explaining when and what type of help we require.
Over the next few months the Board will continue their work in the development of our Constitution, we will be reviewing our Development Plan and also completing some Governance Training. It will be a busy time. Don’t forget, as members, to continually put out the message to friends and work colleagues what a great Club we have and push our Membership Specials.
As a Board we welcome all feedback. Please feel free to save the following link and use the SUGGESTION BOX e-mail address which is suggestionbox@bunburygolfclub.com.au to pass on your thoughts. Each suggestion will be responded too.
