Grounds Update Sept 2020

Dear Members,
Just an update with what’s been happening out on the course over the winter period.
No doubt this winter has been quite different than what we have ever experienced but it has also been a great opportunity to make the most of the situation. Each year Autumn is a very busy time out on the course and in the maintenance schedule with gold letter events, pennants, corporate days and then the lead up to the South West Open which then carries us through the winter months. With all our events wiped off the calendar until after June we took the opportunity to embark on some projects that we would never normally think about doing because of the impact to the golfing calendar.
As part of the planning to reduce the financial risk that was possibly facing the club at the beginning of the Covid period all on course spending was subsequently stopped and staff volunteered to reduce their amount of annual leave by 4 weeks in a hope to leave the club in a healthier position once the crisis had passed.
Prior to Covid we had scheduled works to commence on the chipping green area. These works included enlarging the bunker to allow for more members to practice and to have a larger area for our Golf Professionals to conduct lessons and to create a varying range of chipping scenarios from off the green.
