Course Update- February
Published on 2nd February 2024 in Course NewsIt’s hard to believe that the month of January has flown by already. The course has held up reasonably well with the hotter temperatures and things are starting to take shape out there.
We recently bid farewell to one of our team members in Mick Hancock who has decided to focus on a new local business venture. Mick was a great member of the team and although his shoes will be extremely hard to fill, we will be looking for a replacement in the not too distant future.
The 8th hole is back in play and looking good. I have however chatted to a few members who have felt the need to drive their cart either through the gap in the ropes or around the back. The ropes will be staying in place for the time being, so we do ask to park your cart at the front of the green and walk up to play your ball.
Our summer kikuyu programme has also kicked off with the 1st of 3 herbicide applications taking place. Some discolouration of the fairways will probably take place after the 1st application due to the nature of the chemical and mixed with the hotter weather may exacerbate it a little more but it’s merely a cosmetic blemish and will clear up within a couple of days. The follow up applications using a different chemical at 7 day intervals won’t have any negative effects on the couch. The plan moving forward is another series of applications will begin to take place in late autumn concentrating on areas of rough from fairway edge out to tree line and from tee surrounds through to the beginning of the fairways.
I do apologise as this month’s edition is a little light on but in no way reflects our workload! So, until next edition of the crier, stay cool and enjoy your golf.
