Captain’s Report – 9 August 2017

Published on 14th August 2017 in Women's News

Only a week out from the Open day on Friday 18th and the Bowl & Classic on the weekend of the 19th and 20th.

We have 110 competitors entered to play on Friday, which is 14 more than last year.

61 players are entered for the Bowl, again an increase of 14, whilst the Classic has 59 entrants which is down by 4 from last year. Even though we have an unfortunate clash with the State Foursomes Championships in Perth on the weekend, our visiting players from Perth are well represented. A number of these players are active in the Senior Ranking events and it is encouraging to see them participating in this new initiative, recently introduced into the Bowl & Classic. I am very pleased to welcome Bevin & Lorraine Martin as the Sponsors of this Senior ranking event and wish to extend our thanks to them for their valued support.

The ground staff are working to prepare the course well and have confirmed that they will be on hand to assist with moving players out to tee boxes on Friday. I have requested an easy course be set for the Canadian Foursomes, so that members and their visitors can enjoy a fun day out without being unduly challenged.

However, come Saturday morning we will have a Championship course set and I hope that everyone will be suitably tested over the 2 days.

Good luck to all members who are participating and thank you for your support. I would also like to extend my thanks to all volunteers, whose efforts will certainly ensure the weekend is successful.

Although we have experienced some degree of winter this year, with more than usual wet weather impacting on Wednesdays and Saturdays, our numbers have been quite reasonable with 72 players in the field last Wednesday and 31 on Saturday.

Following up on the request re the pathways between greens and tee boxes. The Director of Grounds acknowledges that there are issues with some areas and confirms that the plan is to concrete 1 pathway every year. Daniel said he would ensure that these concerns were raised with Dave.
