PRESIDENT REPORT – APRIL 2018
Published on 4th April 2018 in Members NewsTo all Members,
I was delighted with the attendance of over 100 members at our SGM last week and was thrilled with the result of the motion after arriving nervous on whether we would reach the 50 quorum required. The Board and Building Committee takes its responsibilities very seriously and be advised we will be using the borrowed money as effectively as possible for the best outcomes for the Club. As Mark also pointed out it is imperative we adopt a planned pay back policy.
It is also clear from our membership that as well as going ahead with the Balcony/Decking area, at the same time we also need to start work inside the kitchen. To that end at our Building Committee meeting next week we will begin a structured analysis and action plan to bring the kitchen area up to standard.
I was pleased to attend the Golf WA Awards Night last month. To be nominated for any of these awards is a great thrill. Congratulations to Del MacNeill for her nomination. Del has devoted a lot of time and energy looking after many of our female members and was unlucky not to have won. We were overjoyed when we were announced winners of the Regional Course of the Year. It has taken a lot of work by a lot of people, both employees and volunteers, over many years to achieve this accolade. Congratulations to the whole Club. I know as I drive around and play the course how lucky we are to have such a fine course. The publicity an award like this gives is huge and the spin offs like increased visitors and membership is hard to quantify but is one we will enjoy for the rest of this year.
Those people entering the Pro Shop will have noticed the changes that Mark has introduced. Please make yourself aware of all the new products we sell and try to patronise the Club as much as possible for all your golfing needs. It isn’t a big shop and therefore we can’t display every product we have access to, so please before you buy a new set of clubs or buggy elsewhere ask Mark if he can match the price you have been quoted. It always pays to shop locally.
As the days get shorter and evenings get cooler Fridays Twilight BBQ will head indoors. Friday 6th April will be the final BBQ. Twilight Golf will continue right through winter as will our raffles, members draw, happy hour drinks and a variety of different meals to be offered each Friday. Don’t forget footy will be on the screens so the culture that has been created over the Summer Season will continue all year round. I would love to thank our volunteer cooks and House/Social for making this such a great success.
I would like to wish Vanessa all the best following her resignation last week. Talking to Vanessa the other day she needs time to help with family commitments especially looking after her mother. Vanessa has been with us for a couple of years and we thank her for all her efforts and for that understanding smile you got when you wander up to the bar after having 24 points.
Congratulations to Barney Jones and Leisa Ross for their victory in this year’s Leschenault Classic. Such well-deserved and popular winners. It was a very successful weekend for the Club and we really appreciate Terry Veale’s support of this wonderful event. Unfortunately Terry was unable to be there to award his trophies, that task was performed admirably by Maureen, but Terry was there the following weekend for our Opening Day. Congratulations also to Lee Foreman who won the Centenary Cup on a countback from Ned Golem. Two great scores for 36 holes of Stroke. Achieving an excellent score of 46 points Peter Hodgins was successful in this year’s Easter Cup. Well played Peter. Also playing a terrific round was Runner Up Matt Simmons with 43 points, (71 of the stick, and 33 on the back 9).
Planning is well under way for this year’s South West Open and once again we will be chasing many volunteers. The format this year will be a 36 Hole event rather than a 54 Hole event. Thursday evening (31st May) we will have our Sportsman’s Night. The Pro-am will follow on the Friday (1st June) and following that in the evening we will have a long driving competition. On the Saturday night we will have our Quiz Night and the Sunday night we will have all presentations (SW Open, 4BBB, etc.).On the Monday we plan to have a “Funday Monday” Play the course set for the Pro’s! Novelties, entertainment and more to be confirmed.
It’s a great time of the year to be out there playing golf. In the coming weeks we have the Ladies and Men’s Foursomes Championships, the Mixed Foursomes Championships and Anzac Day, which is always a special day on out golfing calendar.
