President’s Update – November
Published on 10th November 2024 in Members NewsThe Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 25th November 2024 commencing at 6pm. You need to be a financial member to vote at the AGM and at least 50 members must be in attendance to constitute a quorum for the meeting to go ahead. If any members are seeking consideration on a particular issue, then a special notice of motion must be handed to the General Manager, 21 days before the date of the AGM. At the close of nominations on 28th October 2024, seven of the available positions were filled, due to only one nomination being received for the respective positions. Only one Board position is to be decided at the AGM, the role of Director of Finance. The current Director of Finance, Mark Thomas, is not seeking re-election after having served 9 continuous years on the Board. Mark’s contribution to the BGC is considerable and we wish him well for the future. Although not essential for anyone to have formal qualifications in finance, it would be advantageous if any prospective member with financial experience might consider nominating for the Director of Finance position.
The Club’s Constitution provides guidance for filling any vacancy on the Board:
“2. The annual election of office bearers shall be by secret ballot at each Annual General Meeting in the presence of the returning officer and two scrutineers elected by the members present at such meeting.
a. Members unable to attend the meeting may lodge a vote on the Club approved ballot paper with the Secretary at least two days prior to the meeting, having also recorded and signed an apology for the meeting on an outer sealed envelope that contains the sealed ballot paper. This approved ballot paper must be distributed directly to the member.
b. All other votes shall be cast at the Annual General Meeting.
6. If there are insufficient nominations to fill the whole of the vacancies of the list of office bearers, those nominated shall be declared elected and shall have power to fill the vacancies and any casual vacancies that may occur.
7. In any case when there are an insufficient number of candidates to fill all vacancies then members may nominate candidates at the meeting for the outstanding vacancies.”
The declared elected Board members for 2024/25 are:
President: Greg Trevaskis
Vice President: Rod Cutler
Club Captain: Danny Ennor
Womens President; Lyn Morton
Director Grounds: Alan Grist
Director of Finance Vacant – to be filled at the AGM
Director: Pauline Morrison

Excluding myself, may I extend our congratulations to each of those re-elected onto the Board and thank them for their ongoing time and commitment for the benefit of the Bunbury Golf Club.
I would also like to take the opportunity to clarify the Club’s expectations about being an open and welcoming place for members, visitors and staff. We are lucky to have a great mix of people, men and women of all ages attending our many functions, golfing days and socialising in our fabulous Clubrooms. As a Club we want everyone to enjoy the Clubs facilities/hospitality, but at the same time, show respect for any awards/presentation ceremonies, by socialising quietly and not provide any undue distraction whilst the ceremony is conducted. The Club expects common courtesy to be applied for anyone in the Clubhouse and on the balconies, to enable the presentations to be conducted efficiently. There are no exclusive privileges attached to any normal weekly BGC golf events within the Clubhouse. Everyone should feel welcome.
Greg Trevaskis
